Timber...

Tree close to houseAs we were walking out to our backyard in mid July, we noticed that the massive Eucalyptus tree on the corner of our property was beginning to encroach upon the house.  Again…

We first had to deal with this tree about a year an a half ago, when one of its smaller trunks (about 10 inches in diameter) was starting to lean towards the house.  At that time, I climbed up the leaning trunk of the tree and painstakingly cut it down in small pieces so as not to take out the house.

Glenn in the treeLuckily, this time we caught the tree before it leaned too close to the house, and I convinced my brother-in-law to do the climbing (he actually wanted to do it).  So, Glenn shimmied up the tree and started cutting it down in controllable sections, while we spent time on the ground cutting it up and feeding it into the new chipper (gotta love the power tools).

When we finally had the trunk cut back far enough from the house, we started cutting the last 25’ section down and prepared to drop it in the middle of the grass.  The good news is, after a short amount of cutting, it fell perfectly in the center of the grass.  The bad news is, when it landed, it hurled a 10lb chunk of grass and dirt up at the house and broke our new kitchen window…   We’ll get that tree next time!
